Katarzyna M. Tyc

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Public Health and a Faculty member in the Bioinformatics Shared Resource Core at the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. My research centers on developing and applying innovative computational methods to dissect complex biological systems, integrating high-dimensional biological data with clinical understanding. My work spans areas such as spatial biology, host-microbe interactions, cancer genomics and person-specific health outcomes, and human genetics.

Jun 14, 2026 :newspaper: Our team member earned the cMEDA 2026 Summer Research Scholarship! :sparkles: We’re excited to announce that Jason LaPierre, a master’s student in bioinformatics, has earned a summer research scholarship from the Center for Microbiome Engineering and Data Analysis (cMEDA)! He will use the grant to further his research in spatial transcriptomics. You can learn more about his project on our new page. Stay tuned for more updates about the cMEDA symposium where we will disseminate our findings at the end of summer.
